Summary Description:

We are looking to admit one outstanding applicant to the “Marine Food Web Modelling Group” at the Institute of Marine Sciences, Middle East Technical University, Mersin, Turkey. A highly motivated (Turkish or international) post-doctoral researcher (1 position) is encouraged to join our research project entitled “Advancing understanding of Cumulative Impacts on European marine biodiversity, ecosystem functions and services for human wellbeing” (https://www.actnow-project.eu/), which is funded by European Commission under Horizon Europe program.

The tasks involved in the research project are to:

• Estimate community level indicators and assess their cumulative responses of ecosystems to multiple pressures;

• Assess the direct and indirect responses of key ecosystem functions to cumulative pressure

The post-doctoral researcher will be working with Dr. Ekin Akoglu.

School/Institute/Unit:

Middle East Technical University – Institute of Marine Sciences

Minimum Degree Required:

A PhD degree in ecology, oceanography, earth sciences, applied  mathematics, engineering or any of the physical, biological, and chemical sciences

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Excellent command of English (written and oral)
  • Knowledge on aquatic ecosystems and fundamental concepts in ecology, and skills in statistical methods
  • Command of R or any other high-level (e.g., Phyton, MATLAB etc.) programming language (https://www.r-project.org/)

Preferred special knowledge, abilities, and skills:
  • Previous experience with Ecopath with Ecosim (EwE)
  • Previous experience with  Object-oriented Simulator of Marine Ecosystems (OSMOSE)

Additional Information:               

The stipend is for 3 years.
